Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Tournament Drops Esports Rules So Wild They’ll Make Shenron Dizzy!
Ready to see the full lineup of DST competitors and their country-assigned characters?
Hold on to your senzu beans, folks! Bandai Namco is flipping the script on traditional eSports with a never-before-seen tournament format for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Imagine a global showdown where your character is already picked, the rules are turned on their head, and the whole thing screams pure, unfiltered Dragon Ball madness.
What in the World is Going On?
The Dramatic Showdown Tournament (DST) isn’t your usual “pick your best character and fight” ordeal. Instead, this tournament is all about celebrating the universe of Dragon Ball characters. Jun Furutani, the game’s producer, revealed that the 16 characters for the finals have been pre-chosen. That’s right—no more endless debates about who’s OP. The organizers picked 16 characters out of Sparking Zero's epic 182-character roster, and each one is tied to a specific country. Imagine, France is repping Ultra Instinct Goku, while Germany? You’re rollin' with Super Baby 2!

The Road to Battle Hour
Here’s how it works: players worldwide will brawl their way through online tournaments on PlayStation 5, trying to grab one of nine golden tickets to the Battle Hour finals in Los Angeles this January. Plus, there's a last chance qualifier for seven more hopefuls on January 17, the event's opening day, making a full 16-competitor roster.
Spectators can sign up for free to witness every punch, kick, and energy blast in what promises to be three full days of Dragon Ball glory!
But Wait, There’s More (…and it’s BONKERS!)
Since the tournament’s characters come with a whole range of in-game abilities, Bandai Namco’s balancing the competition using special in-game items. The twist doesn’t end there—each finalist can select a second character from a curated pool of 40 teammates to add a little strategy to their lineup. Think you’ll see Ultra Instinct Goku duking it out alone? Think again!
The Plot Thickens with a Balance Patch!
In classic Dragon Ball style, Bandai Namco snuck in one last announcement: there’s a big balance patch for Sparking Zero coming in December. It’ll hit right after the online qualifiers, bringing adjustments and tweaks to level the playing field even further.
So, who’s up for a Dragon Ball tournament with insane rules, random character assignments, and the high-octane action of a Kamehameha wave?
