Capcom Thrills Fans with Long-Awaited Okami Sequel Reveal at Game Awards 2024

Fans of the classic game Okami have reason to celebrate! Capcom has announced a sequel to the beloved 2006 action-adventure game. The original game, developed by Clover Studios, was praised for beautiful artwork, engaging gameplay and a story inspired by Japanese folklore. Now, nearly 20 years later, the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, the White wolf is returning for another adventure.

What We Know About the Sequel

The new Okami game, currently untitled, will be directed by Hideki Kamiya, the creative mind behind the original. Kamiya is working through his new studio, Clovers, and is teaming up with M-TWO and Machine Head Works, both of which include developers who worked on the first game.

Capcom shared that the game will have the same artistic and mythological charm as Okami, but they haven’t revealed much else. Production is still in the early stages, and the release is expected after 2025. The announcement at the Game Awards included a breathtaking musical performance, hinting at another magical journey through a vibrant, myth-inspired Japan.

A Look Back at Okami

The first Okami became well-known for its specific "Celestial Brush" mechanic, in which gamers used brush strokes to interact with the arena, inspired by the aid of conventional Japanese portray. The story observed Amaterasu as she fought to save the land from darkness. Fans are excited to see how the sequel will amplify those features, with modern pics and new challenges.

The new Okami isn’t the only big project Capcom has in the works. Next year, they’ll release Monster Hunter Wilds, along with a mobile game, Monster Hunter Outlanders.
