PUBG Mobile India relaunch could still happen, details
According to a report from IGN India, Sean Hyunil Sohn, the Head of Corporate Development at Krafton shared a statement regarding PUBG Mobile India. Sohan stated, “I cannot really tell timing or anything because we don’t know yet”. He went on to add, “We care about the Indian market greatly. We will work hard to make it happen.” Sohan shared this while responding to a question about the possible return of the game to India during IGC 2021. The statement outlined how Krafton is not aware of any timeline on the relaunch. However, the company did outline how important India is for them.
Regarding its “hard” efforts to relaunch the game, we have already seen that the company is continuously at it. Krafton has repeatedly stated that it is trying to get in touch with the government to bring back the game. It is willing to work with the government and comply with their guidelines. The company also announced a significant investment in the Indian market in an effort to relaunch the game. On the other hand, we have already seen where the government stands on this issue from its statements. Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar recently pointed PUBG as an example of violent, explicit, and addictive smartphone games.
It is also worth noting that Sohn made these statements at an event that is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). In fact, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also supports the Indian Gaming Show and Conference 2021. Sohn also stated that India accounted for the top daily active user base for the game outside China. The ban has pushed a significant chunk of PUBG fans away from the game. However, it still has not stopped fans from playing the game with whatever means necessary.
