Yeah, it's confusing but it's better than those position-based lines! Here's exactly how the FIFA 23 Ultimate Team chemistry update works.
FIFA 23 Standard Edition was released today and if you’re raring to have a go at this year’s Ultimate Team mode, then there are some changes you should be looking at. For starters, EA has changed how team chemistry works in Ultimate Team. As a rippling effect, there are no longer loyalty chemistry points awarded to players in your team. Furthermore, there are no longer individual position modifier cards to pick from the transfer market. Instead, there will only be a single position modifier card that can be used to change a player’s position. Here’s a complete guide to explain how FUT chemistry works now and how to improve the FUT chemistry of your Ultimate Team.
No more position-based linking
EA has moved away from position-based chemistry for FUT squads. Players will no longer be contributing to chemistry based on the links they have around them. Instead, players can contribute towards chemistry regardless of where they are on the pitch.
For example, Erling Haaland, a striker, can now link with Ederson who’s a goalkeeper. These two can form a chemistry link since they play in the same league and for Manchester City. There’s no need to have them playing near each other like it used to be during the old line-based chemistry system.
Not only has EA removed the position-based chemistry system from FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, but they have also changed how the impact of the chemistry works. For starters, players who are out of position will no longer have a negative impact on their overall. So if you’re thinking of playing Sergio Ramos at ST, he’ll retain his base stats to give you a fair chance of scoring. However, do keep in mind that any player not in their preferred position will not be contributing towards chemistry points.
How it works
Now, if you are linking Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander of Liverpool in FIFA 23, this is how it will work:
The new FUT 23 chemistry system has points for country/region, league and club. Each player will get one point for their country/region, league and club. Trent, an English right-back, plays for Liverpool in the Premier League. So he’ll be contributing a point towards England, Liverpool and Premier League. As for Robertson, he’ll be adding points for Liverpool, Premier League and Scotland, since that’s his nation.
Chemistry requirements
As you can see in the picture above, there’s a threshold to hit each chemistry level in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team. There are a total of three chemistry levels signified by diamonds on a player’s card. Higher the level, the better the stat boost on players. For players to attain a chemistry level, there’s a number of players required to hit that threshold. This gives you an idea of how many players you need to finally have all your players on maximum chemistry, which is level 3.
Another key thing to note is that there is no total team chemistry anymore. Instead, each player has 3 chemistry levels. So instead of a maximum of 100 chemistry, there are now 33 chemistry points in total based on the individual chemistry of each player.
The new FUT chemistry update is surely going to result in a lot more experimental and diverse starting XI as players now have more freedom to truly create an Ultimate Team of their favourite players across the world.
