Xbox says PlayStation and Nintendo will 'remain the biggest' even after Activision Blizzard deal
Xbox did not mention what they exactly meant by “biggest” but from the sound of it, it sounds like Microsoft believes PlayStation and Nintendo will continue to dominate sales even after the acquisition.
Microsoft has just set up a new website to explain the benefits, should the Activision Blizzard acquisition goes through. Xbox’s parent company even went on to claim that Sony and Nintendo will “remain the biggest” players in “traditional gaming” even if this mammoth deal goes through. Part of the benefits also mentions that this deal would result in more games on more devices, including PlayStation.
Microsoft's view about the proposed Activision Blizzard deal
Xbox did not mention what they exactly meant by “biggest” but from the sound of it, it sounds like Microsoft believes PlayStation and Nintendo will continue to dominate sales even after the acquisition. It might also mean that they'll continue to be the biggest competitor to Microsoft. Both of these beliefs are drastically different from what PlayStation believes. If recent reports are true, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan personally went to meet the European Union regulators in Brussels in September to criticize the proposed acquisition.
This is the second time Xbox has publicly talked about the acquisition. They released a blog post first and now there’s an entire website dedicated to explaining why this $68.7 billion deal is not a competition-killer.
In a bid to strengthen their case, Xbox also talked about how the deal benefits gamers. Xbox believes there will be more choices in gaming across all devices, including mobile. There will apparently be more alternatives for those in mobile gaming, as per Microsoft.
Time and time again, Xbox and its boss Phil Spencer have put a case for this deal, primarily from the viewpoint of mobile gaming. Spencer even said that the driving factor to pursue this deal isn’t Call of Duty, something PlayStation clearly does not agree with by the way. Instead, Xbox was driven by the idea of utilising Activision Blizzard’s mobile gaming capabilities. Regardless, no one can undermine the benefits of having their own console platform, a gaming subscription model as well as one of the most popular video game franchises in history under one umbrella.
