Xbox boss Phil Spencer says developers will work on a way to disable Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S
Quick Resume is a feature not supported by every game. However, games that do support it sometimes face issues with it, especially online games.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer has confirmed that the developers are looking into ways to allow players to disable the Quick Resume feature on the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Quick Resume is an exclusive feature on the Xbox Series X|S consoles and it allows players to jump back into a game within a matter of seconds. It essentially suspends games (yep, more than just one game) and lets players pick up right where they left things in just a matter of seconds.
What is Quick Resume?
Quick Resume is a feature not supported by every game. However, games that do support it sometimes face issues with it, especially online games. Since these games connect to an online server, the games cannot stay connected while being on Quick Resume. Jumping back in an online game causes issues due to the Quick Resume feature. Players feel the Quick Resume feature on games like FIFA, PUBG and Halo Infinite actually takes longer than just quitting the game and restarting it.
Since the game takes a long time to reconnect because of Quick Resume, players often close their games so as to wipe the suspended state of Quick Resume and just re-launch the game on their Xbox to eventually connect to the online servers.
Xbox will look into option to disable Quick Resume
That’s indeed a problem for an otherwise amazing feature. A Twitter user GabeTC99 recently expressed the same issue and none other than Xbox’s head Phil Spencer replied to the tweet. The user wrote, “I still don’t understand how [Quick Resume is] not a feature you can disable.” He added, “it’s amazing for a lot of games but when it tries to quick resume an online only game it absolutely breaks it and you have to manually quit. If only an option to disable it for such games existed!”
Good feature ask, makes sense. We will put it on the list of things to look at.

Halo Infinite players lost cosmetic items due to Quick Resume
It is an important option to add indeed considering last year when Halo Infinite faced a major issue due to Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S. The feature was causing players to lose cosmetic items when they jumped back in a game after using Quick Resume. Players found these cosmetics during the campaign but since they got kicked from the online servers, thanks to Quick Resume, those items never got added to a player’s multiplayer inventory.
343 Industries even warned players against using Quick Resume on Halo Infinite due to this issue but it was eventually fixed by the developers. However, problems reconnecting to Halo Infinite and other online games with Quick Resume continue to be a rather annoying issue for Xbox Series X|S players at the moment.
