How to play co-op online
To play online with friends, players have to set up a campfire location. You get tasked with setting one up when you encounter Natsume in the wild. You can set up new campfire locations anywhere, allowing you to easily transverse to different locations in Azuma's big map.
Head to the campfire and interact with it. You'll find the 'play online' option there. Upon choosing the option, you can either look for active sessions or create a new session.
There are various filters such as choosing the Kemono you wish to hunt, environment, location, and your objective. You can also create custom filters which is helpful to include information when you're creating sessions for other players to join.

Multiplayer quests
To start a particular quest on the map and make it available for global multiplayer, simply select that quest on the map. If another player is currently playing the same quest in open multiplayer, you can join them.
However, if you're the only player currently playing the quest, you will initiate a solo session as a host, and other players can join you if they search for that particular quest.

You can locate Hunters Gates all across the world of Azuma which act as live portals. You can see five quests that are currently active among other players and quests that are especially important to your game progress by interacting with a Hunters Gate.
