Horizon Zero Dawn remake reportedly in development alongside a new Horizon multiplayer game
Guerrilla Games released Zero Dawn back in 2017, just five years ago. In remake years, that’s not really long but after The Last Of Us Part I remake, there is now a growing trend of reworking current-gen games for the next-gen consoles and PC.
Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a remaster, as per a new report. Interestingly, the report also says that a new multiplayer game for the Horizon series is in the works at Guerrilla Games. It’s unclear at this point if the game will be “built from the ground up” like Naughty Dogs have done with The Last of Us Part I or if it will look to fine-tune and polish the original game for the next-gen consoles.
Horizon Zero Dawn remake for PS5
Guerrilla Games released Zero Dawn back in 2017, just five years ago. In remake years, that’s not really long but with The Last Of Us Part I remake coming up, there is now a growing trend of reworking current-gen games for the next-gen consoles and PC.
This report from MP1ST states that a new version of Zero Dawn will be adding improved visuals, textures, animations and even new character models so as to match the quality of graphics from Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Zero Dawn. There will also be accessibility options added to the remake and the report says there will be a big focus on implementing that for the remake. God of War (2018) had a host of accessibility features that made the game more approachable for a diverse range of gamers. Sony, from the looks of it, is keen to implement similar accessibility for its games.
Since a confirmed series is coming for Horizon Zero, Sony is likely looking to bring this remaster in time to attract more people to both the series and the game. This transmedia approach does work since Cyberpunk 2077 just found its second wind since the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix. So much so that Cyberpunk 2077 topped the Steam sales chart ahead of FIFA 23 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
New Horizon multiplayer game in development
Apart from the remake, the report’s sources also claim that a new Horizon multiplayer game is being developed. Sources from the report claimed that a PlayStation Studio is currently developing a Horizon online multiplayer game for PS5 and PC. The studio is likely to be Guerrilla Games since they posted a job opening back in 2020 looking for a Senior Game Programmer who has experience in multiplayer to work on an “epic open world game”.
