The Indian gaming industry may get in trouble again According to a report from News18 "Cyber Security Division of the Indian Government has recommended discontinuing BGMI in India".
The report also claims that crimes related to BGMI alerted authorities.
The report indicates that there will be a forthcoming meeting slated for the following week, wherein Krafton, in conjunction with central agencies, will present their case regarding the continuation of the game's operations in India.
Providing some background, it's noted that BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) was reinstated in India in May 2023, following a period of suspension. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology, elucidated in a post on the X platform that the game had been granted provisional approval for a trial period of three months by the Indian government. This temporary authorization was extended to BGMI after Krafton's efforts to address various concerns raised by Indian authorities. Importantly, it's pertinent to mention that in June 2021, IGN India conducted an investigation revealing that Battlegrounds Mobile India had been transmitting data to servers located in China.
