Smartphone maker and electronics giant Asus has just shared made a new announcement regarding its eSports involvement in India. ROG, the gaming hardware and peripheral division of the company is planning to bring back the ROG Showdown. Similar to the first round of the ROG Showdown Series, the second edition will also include a series of online tournaments. The second edition comes weeks after the first edition concluded and this series of events continues to encourage gamers to stay at home. Asus ROG Showdown Series second edition announced, details
The second edition of the eSports tournament is set to kick-off starting January 29 with CS: GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive). Gaming enthusiasts and players will get the chance to take part in nine events spread across three months. Five of the events will focus on Valorant, two on PUBG PC, one on CS: GO, and one on LoL (League of Legends). Asus ROG confirmed that the winning team will take home a cash prize worth Rs 50,000 in Valorant League. In total, the prize pool for the tournament will be around Rs 1,90,000. Beyond this, players will also get a chance to win Steam Game codes worth $300 or about Rs 22,000.
Arnold Su, the Business Head for Consumer and Gaming PC division in the System Business Group at Asus India also issued a statement. Su noted, “The year 2020 has been exceptional and has presented us with unprecedented challenges. While it has been a difficult year for all of us, we at Asus India, have turned this around as an opportunity for our young gaming community to have more exciting and meaningful experiences through a series of gaming tournaments during the first edition of ROG Showdown.”
The statement went on to add, “The success of the 1st edition of ROG Showdown has encouraged Asus to initiate a tournament in APAC which is yet to be launched but shall provide Indian teams with a platform to participate with other global teams.” For some context, the first edition of the tournament saw “close to 7000 participants” with multiple eSports teams from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The registration for the first event in the Asus ROG Showdown Series starts on January 23. One can find the timeline for the events on the official website for the tournament.
