VALORANT’s New Regen Shields: Everything You Need to Know

Discover everything about VALORANT's Regen Shields introduced in Patch 9.05.

In the wide-reaching Patch 9.05, a new feature called Regen Shields has been introduced in VALORANT for the first time, bringing forward new twists in the gameplay. Moreover, these shields raise doubt and apprehension from players due to their unique mechanics. Let’s break down everything you need to know about this new armour type, its cost, and how it changes the game

How Do Regen Shields Work?

Regen Shields provide a mix of immediate and regenerative protection. Upon purchase, they add 25 base HP to your armour while introducing a 50 HP regeneration pool. Once the base armour is damaged, the shield regenerates itself by drawing from this pool. This regeneration can occur twice before the shield is entirely depleted.

In essence, the Regen Shields absorb 100% of incoming damage until their base armour is destroyed, delaying any damage to the player’s health. After taking damage, a short delay occurs before the shield starts to recharge using the remaining regeneration pool.

Regen Shield Stats

Damage Absorption: 25 HP (basic armour).
Regeneration pool: 50 HP - recharging armour.
UI Improvements: Dedicated visual indicator will display the regeneration pool left along your armour and health. This would make it easier to track the status of your shield within the actual gameplay.

Cost and Strategic Value

The price for Regen Shields is 650 credits, so the slot is between Light Shields (400 credits) and Heavy Shields (1,000 credits). This makes a good option for eco or half-buy rounds since they have greater durability than Light Shields but don't come with the high price of Heavy Shields.

Gameplay Effects

These shields introduce a dynamic layer of strategy to matches. Their regeneration ability allows players to withstand sustained damage while encouraging tactical repositioning to give the shield time to recharge. And though they also heighten concerns, specifically among users, as the ability to regenerate can provide certain agents, like those of the Sentinel category, especially Chamber, with an opportunity to hold areas or retake sites.

Patch 9.05 Changes

Apart from Regen Shields, Patch 9.05 has revamped Sentinel Chamber and Controller Astra’s mechanics, further shaking up team compositions and strategies.
