Spider-Man 2 will be released during the Fall 2023 release window, as confirmed by PlayStation
Not only the Spider-Man games, Insomniac Games is also developing another Marvel project in Wolverine. We've also listed down all the upcoming AAA Marvel games such as EA's Iron Man game.
The highly anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game will be out next year in Fall 2023, as confirmed by the creative director at Insomniac Games, Bryan Inhitar.
Spider-Man 2 will be a console exclusive for Sony PS5, snubbing the previous-gen PS4 for its development. The latest PS blog highlighting the upcoming titles for PlayStation made the announcement for Spider-Man 2 release window.
Bryan Intihar delivered a message from Insomniac Games saying, “What a year it’s been for PlayStation Studios; here at Insomniac Games we’ve been in absolute awe of the work of our peers.” He added, “Congrats to everyone on a successful 2022… and here’s to next year being just as exciting as we continue to get Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ready for release next fall.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are all projects from the Insomniac Games. Bill Rosemann, vice president of creative at Marvel Games, said the upcoming Spider-Man 2 game is “everything you love” about the prequel and Miles Morales, while adding that the sequel will have even more to offer.
Rosemann also said last year, “There are multiple foes. I can say the story very much continues and picks up from Marvel’s Spider-Man to Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. I don’t want to reveal too much but it’s the next big chapter, there are a lot of threads, a lot of characters that were in the first two games that you’ll see here.”
Upcoming Marvel games including Wolverine and Iron Man
Not only the Spider-Man games, Insomniac Games is also developing another Marvel project in Wolverine. Insomniac’s head of franchise strategy Ryan Schneider addressed this project earlier this year saying, “Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay, the team is already creating something truly special.”
That’s two upcoming Marvel games from Sony’s studio whereas some other publishers are also expanding Marvel’s foray into the gaming universe. There’s a single-player Iron Man game being developed by Electronic Art’s Motive Studio.
EA said Marvel Entertainment and Motive Studio are working on the Iron Man game which will be an “all-new single-player, third-person, action-adventure”. Montreal-based Motive Studio will be heading the development and the game is said to be in early development stages at the moment.
Elsewhere, Amy Hennig’s studio is developing a Captain America and Black Panther game. Set during World War II, it will be a "narrative-driven, ensemble adventure game" that pits the superheroes against Hydra in Paris, and reportedly in Wakanda. First teaser for this title was shown during Disney and Marvel Games Showcase 2022.
Insomniac Games is also working on a Wolverine game for PS5. According to the studio, the game will be a standalone title directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who were the creative leads on Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
“Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay, the team is already creating something truly special,” said Insomniac’s head of franchise strategy Ryan Schneider.
