Pokemon Go New Year's event 2023: Featured Pokemon, new items, chance to catch Reshiram and more
Pokémon Go has revealed the New Year 2023 event, starting from 31st December to January 4th.
Pokémon Go’s developer, Niantic, has revealed the New Year 2023 event featuring several costumes, rewards, and in-game bonuses. The event will begin on December 31st at 8:00 p.m. local time and end on January 4th at 8:00 p.m. local time.
Costumed Pokémon
Pikachu would appear wearing a party top hat. And other than that, you’d be able to transform Hoothoot into Noctowl, both in a New Year’s outfit.

Avatar items, poses, and stickers in the in-game shop
New avatar items, poses, and stickers will be available in the Pokémon Go in-game shop. You'll get access to various new items such as the Pikachu Party Hat and Party Popper Pose. These items would be available even after the event ends.
Wild Encounters
There would be a higher chance of encountering the following Pokémon in the wild:
- Pikachu with a party top hat
- Wurmple with a party hat
- Hoothoot dressed up in a New Year’s outfit
Pokemon Go 2023 event eggs
These Pokémon will hatch from the 7 km eggs during the Pokemon Go 2023 event:
- Cleffa
- Igglybuff
- Smoochdum
- Pichu wearing a party hat
- Elekid
- Magby
- Tyrogue
- Togepi
- Wynaut
- Azurill
Field Research Tasks & Collection Challenge
Both of them will be available to earn rewards during the New Year Event. Players will also get to earn stardust upon successfully completing the Collection Challenge. However, there is not much information revealed yet by Niantic about both of these challenges.

These Pokémon will appear in raids:
One-Star Raids
- Charmander wearing a party hat
- Hoothoot dressed up in a New Year’s outfit
- Squirtle wearing a party hat
- Bulbasaur wearing a party hat
- Pikachu wearing a party top hat
Three-Star Raids
- Gengar wearing a party hat
- Nidorino wearing a party hat
- Raticate wearing a party hat
- Wobbuffet wearing a party hat
Five-Star Raids
- Reshiram
Reshiram, when captured in raids will also know the special Fusion Flare attack. This five-star raid legendary Pokemon will have 90 power when it comes to trainer battles and 140 power for Gyms & Raids.

- Mega Steelix
Event Bonuses
- ½ Egg hatch distance for those placed in an incubator
- ¼ Egg hatch distance for the first three eggs via the Pokémon Go Egg hatching widget
