Sony’s DualSense Edge Controller is the company’s response to Xbox’s Elite Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S.
Sony has just released a new firmware update for PS5 which adds support for the upcoming DualSense Edge wireless controller. This 22.02-06.50.00 version update will ensure PlayStation 5 players who buy the DualSense Edge controller have their devices compatible and ready for use when it arrives. While the update is now live, the DualSense Edge controller will be released later this month.
New PlayStation 5 system update
This new PlayStation 5 system update, without a surprise, says that it “improves system performance”. That’s the general go-to description PlayStation players receive whenever a system update comes. Usually, there’s no elaboration of what exactly has been changed or implemented for better performance. This update also did not clarify what those changes are. The new update has begun rolling out for PlayStation 5 users, as confirmed by VGC.
DualSense Edge controller price and release date
As for the DualSense Edge controller, it releases globally on January 26. Sony PS5 DualSense Edge controller will be available only through the PlayStation Direct store in the US, UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg. It will then be available through retailers from February 23 onwards.
The DualSense Edge controller will be available for $199.99 USD / £209.99 / €239.99. Sony PS5 DualSense Edge controller is also available for pre-orders in India for the price of ₹18,990 through online retailers like Amazon, Games The Shop and Vijay Sales. DualSense Edge controller features
Sony has mentioned that its upcoming premium controller has features such as “button remapping, the ability to fine-tune stick sensitivity and triggers, options to swap between multiple control profiles, and a unique on-controller user interface.”
Sony’s DualSense Edge Controller is the company’s response to Xbox’s Elite Wireless Controller. These two controllers are in the premium-gaming range and offer a lot of luxurious features that are inclined towards giving pro players more control over their gaming sessions.
“You can make the DualSense Edge wireless controller uniquely yours with the included three changeable sets of stick caps and two changeable sets of back buttons. Everything will come bundled in the included carrying case, and you can even charge the controller via USB connection while it’s stored in the case to make sure you’re always ready for your next play session,” says Sony.

Worse battery life than standard PS5 DualSense controller
While that sounds great on paper, sadly DualSense Edge controller has less battery life than the standard PS5 controller. Given the price tag of the premium controller, fans are particularly disappointed with this shortcoming. The standard DualSense controller claims to offer up to 12 hours of battery life and some users have reported that it drops to just 6 hours after using it for a year. It remains to be seen how the DualSense Edge controller battery performs if it is confirmed to deliver less than 12 hours of battery life from the start.
