Hogwarts Legacy, the latest game based on the wizarding world established in the Harry Potter franchise, explores quite a bit with the magical beasts as well. In fact, you even get to mount on them to explore the world, and reach your destinations. The Graphorn is one such beast, which is currently the only available ground mount in Hogwarts Legacy.
The Graphorn was first mentioned only in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, appearing for the first time in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Since then, Pottermore has explored the majestic beast that the Graphorn is, appearing in multiple games since, the latest of them being Hogwarts Legacy.
How and where to unlock the Graphorn
However, unlocking the Graphorn as a mount, and an addition to the vivarium is not as easy as it sounds. The quest that allows you to unlock a Graphorn presents itself to you as a part of San Bakar’s Trial. You can learn more about San Bakar’s Trial here but here’s how you get to ride a Graphorn.
The first Graphorn that you need to tame can be found in Clagmar Coast. A Graphorn needs to be subdued in order to be tamed. This presents to you a boss fight with the Graphorn in order for you to bring one to Cragcroft Shire, or simply add one to your vivarium.
The Graphorn Boss Fight- Tips and Tricks
The Graphorn attacks you mainly by charging at you, and the impact will be highly damaging for your character. Therefore you need to be on your guard to dodge the Graphorn every time.
Pro-tips going forward- the Graphron has a very thick hide, and is therefore not affected by most of your spells. However, your Damage spells are exceptions to this. Damage spells are indicated by red, and include Confringo, Incendio, Expelliarmus, and Diffindo. You will also have your ‘ancient magic’ combos at your disposal to deal some heavy blows on the Graphorn.
Another thing to keep in mind would be that you will face the Graphorn at its worst once you deplete the first bar of its health. You can activate the target lock feature to make things easier for you to refocus your spells, since you will be maneuvering a lot in the quest area, and no the Graphorn won’t really be giving you a lot of time for your spells.
Once you complete the boss fight, you will be provided with two options to move forwards- “Kneel”, “Attack”. If you choose to Kneel, the Graphorn is stopped on its tracks and you get it as a permanent mount in the process. In case you choose the latter, you will have to complete the subjugation to tame your Graphorn.
Where and how to add Graphorns to breed offsprings
You can continue to add Graphorns to your vivarium, even after you complete San Bakar’s Trial. Hogwarts Legacy also has a feature that allows you to get your beasts in your vivarium companions to breed with. In fact, not breeding the beasts in your vivarium won’t let you finish the game in completion or 100%.
Graphorns can be found in the Graphorn Den that you can spot in the South-Eastern region of the World Map. You will get to confront only one Graphorn every time you visit the region in order to tame one, as a part of a boss fight. As for determining the gender of the Graphorn, female Graphorns do look a little different than the male ones. However, the gender can be revealed only in your vivarium.
