Hogwarts Legacy is one of Steam’s top-selling game even a month before release
Hogwarts Legacy shot up from being ranked 22 to now being in the top five in just a week on Steam.
Hogwarts Legacy is set for a release in February but the game is already on the top-selling list on Steam. This upcoming game from the Harry Potter universe is currently one of the most successful games on Steam already when it comes to sales. Currently, Hogwarts Legacy is No. 5 on Steam’s global top-sellers list. This list is arranged based on the revenue generated, rather than the number of units sold.

The game shot up from being ranked 22 to now being in the top five in just a week. Apex Legends is currently at the top of the list followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 in fourth. Valve’s Steam Deck console holds third place.
It’s quite impressive that Hogwarts Legacy has managed to be in the top 5 based on only pre-orders. Warner Games’ upcoming wizarding game has beaten the likes of Call of Duty Modern Warfare (6th) and FIFA 23 (14th) to the position.
Hogwarts Legacy was the eighth biggest revenue maker for Steam at the end of last week (January 10) behind Steam Deck, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Apex Legends, Modern Warfare 2, Elden Ring and FIFA 23.
Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software, is an upcoming open-world RPG game set in the wizarding universe. Warner’s Portkey Games is serving as the publisher. Players will get the premium experience of being a Hogwarts student while solving a great mystery. Players will “live the unwritten and embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.” Currently, the Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition are available for pre-order for Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
Hogwarts Legacy PlayStation exclusive reward
There’s a special reward waiting for PS4 and PS5 players in Hogwarts Legacy, regardless of which edition they purchase. PlayStation players will be getting an exclusive Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest. This quest will be exclusive to PlayStation for a year and will unlock for other players a year after release.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Then, it will arrive on the previous-gen consoles Xbox One and PS4 on April 4. Finally, Hogwarts Legacy will release for Nintendo Switch on July 25.
Hogwarts Legacy tagged with 'transphobic', 'transphobia' tags on Steam
As the game is nearing its release, some users flocked to Steam to add rather dark tags to the game. Steam allows user-defined tags for the game which are categorized by the weight of each tag. So if a particular tag has a lot of common people adding it to the game, it shows up on Steam page.

Some users, possibly as a protest against J.K Rowling, added tags like Capitalism, Psychological Horror, NSFW, Villain Protagonist, Capitalism, and even transphobia, transphobic tags, as reported by GamesRadar. Those tags are no longer visible on Steam but can be viewed through the magic of the Wayback Machine internet archive.
