Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Showcase Highlights- character customization, Hogwarts walkthrough, dueling mechanics & more
The gameplay showcase from Friday gave us a walkthrough of the various features of the Hogwarts Legacy. In case you missed the showcase, here's everything you need to know.
Avalanche Software presented a deep dive into the world of Hogwarts Legacy on November 11th. The 46 minutes long showcase left us with quite the substance to dwell on over the weekend. Hogwarts Legacy has always promised a brand-new, never-seen-before perspective of Hogwarts. The gameplay showcase gave us a close look at what the developers implied with this. Here are the highlights from the show.
The show was hosted by the Community Manager at Avalanche, Chandler Wood. Wood walked us through the game with James Whitehead from XpectoGo, Game Director Alan Tew, and Senior Environment Artist Boston Madsen.
Characterizing yourself in Hogwarts Legacy
We were given a second-hand experience of the Character Creator in the game. The wide range of options it poses will allow you to customize the hero of your dreams that you’ll get to play as in the game. From extremely intricate and detailed skin and hair colors, and textures, to facial features including scars and blemishes that you can consciously choose to add depth to your character, options are galore. This includes your accessories as well.
A walk through the Hufflepuff Common Room
We got to see the Hufflepuff common room in particular, and it really looked straight out of every Potterhead’s dream. We’ve never seen the Hufflepuff common room in this manner before, not in the Harry Potter books and movies at least. Clearly, the creativity of the developers really shined through the tour. A special note to the music was made. We were informed that each common room is equipped with unique music that welcomes the occupant to it in a particular mood that represents the house.
Duel and Spells
The spell and dueling mechanics of the game was also explained. We were given a taste of the different quests that our characters might get to encounter in the game. As a fifth-year student, who is joining Hogwarts in the middle of the term, we’ve got a lot of catching up to do. That’s where the quests come in, which will let us unearth the various secrets and mysteries of Hogwarts.
Easter Eggs from the Hogwarts Legacy Showcase
We got to see many spots from the castle and its grounds that we’re already familiar with such as the grand staircase, the owlery, and more. Special shoutout to the devs casually dropping the title ‘Prewett’. For context, Prewett was Molly Weasley’s maiden-name, so maybe here we’re talking about some ancestor of hers?
Regardless, Avalanche Studios has explained time and again that J.K Rowling has not actively contributed to the game in any sense. The events of the game itself date back to about a hundred years before those of the Harry Potter series. So those of you concerned about boycotting the game, over the controversial persona of the creator of Harry Potter, J.K Rowling, may find this a reason to give the game a chance. As for the launch of the game, Hogwarts Legacy is now confirmed to be launching on February 10, 2023, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
