Mega Houndoom, a Dark and Fire type Mega Pokémon, is back in Pokémon Go Mega Raids until September 26. It is the third best Dark type raid attacker in the game and raiding for it is definitely worth it. Mega Pokémon with two typing are especially useful if you can get them to Mega Level 3.

Remember that if you already have a good IV Houndoom, the Mega Energy you get from these raids can be used on any Houndoom.

Mega Houndoom Counters:

Mega Houndoom has a weakness to Fighting, Ground, Rock, and Water-type attacks. It has double resistance to Psychic-type attacks. It also has resistance to Dark, Fire, Ghost, Grass, Ice, and Steel-type attacks.

Happily, you will need both Groudon and Kyogre to defeat Mega Houndoom. Both of these Pokémon are in raids through September 2024, so if you don’t have any good Mega Houndoom counters then get out and do some Groudon raids.
Additionally, Mega Tyranitar is a great choice for this raid with optimized moves. This Pokémon will give you extra candy and XP when you catch Houndoom.

Mega Evolution can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. A Mega Level 3 active that boosts Candy for Dark and Fire-types will give you 2 extra Candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your chance of XL Candy.

How many Trainers will I need to beat Mega Houndoom?

Beating Mega Houndoom in Pokémon GO isn’t too challenging. You should be able to take on this Mega Raid with just two Trainers.
However, the faster you beat the Mega Raid, the more Mega Energy you get. So, aim for a group of at least five Trainers if you want to be safe and get more Mega Energy. This will also apply to lower level trainers.
