The company had to compete with the likes of EverMerge, Legends of Runeterra, Manor Matters, and Cell to Singularity - Evolution Never Ends. This list of competitors also includes Farm City: Farming & City Building, Teamfight Tactics: League of Legends Strategy Game, Dream League Soccer 2021, Cooking Sizzle: Master Chef, Grand Hotel Mania, and Legends of Runeterra. As part of the competition, fans had to vote for the game of their choice between November 10 and 23 to arrive at the final result. Google declared the final winners for the awards on November 30. One should note that the winners for these winners vary based on the country and most countries have different nominations.
For some context, the WCC franchise of games has crossed about 143 million downloads since its beginning. As previously noted, the “Made in India” game helped distract cricket fans during the lockdown. The popularity of the game soared during the pandemic resulting in “more than 22 million” in a time-period between Feb and Sept 2020. It also reported a growth of about 100 percent in the in-app purchases between Feb to Nov 2020.
Next Wave Multimedia CEO and Co-Founder P.R Rajendran also issued a statement as part of the announcement. Rajendran stated, “We are absolutely elated by this recognition and would like to credit the fans of WCC for this feat! Being a fan-driven game, we plan to continue to innovate and usher more features and engage even more players.” He went on to add, “WCC is the longest-running mobile cricket gaming franchise from India and we're thrilled that the recently launched third edition of the game was the only cricket game to make it to the top 10 list of nominations in this category, this year. This award is dedicated to all the WCC fans out there!”
