Game developer and publisher Riot Games has announced the launch of League of Legends: Wild Rift on smartphones. However, this launch will be limited to the recently announced Apple iPhone 12 series. According to the announcement, the game is designed to take advantage of the Apple A14 Bionic chip along with 5G. Both these technologies will ensure that Wild Rift provides a seamless experience on the device. Riot Games made this significant announcement during the Apple iPhone 12 series launch event. Let’s check all the details available around League of Legends: Wild Rift here including the possible launch timeline.
League of Legends: Wild Rift launching on Apple iPhone 12; details
According to the report, the much-anticipated Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game is set to launch “some time” later this year. It is also worth noting that this announcement comes at an interesting time especially if we look at the developments around Fortnite. Apple has not made any gaming-focused announcements in the recent product launches so highlighting Wild Rift is new. Riot Games did not reveal any information about the exact iPhone 12 models that will run the game. Even though all iPhone 12 models will feature an A14 bionic chip and 5G; battery-consumption concerns may change things. Battery requirements around gaming may limit the game to the top-end iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.
A14 Bionic and 5G also mean that the game may be limited to the iPhone 12 lineup. We should also note that it is unclear how 5G will help the game. However, Riot Games did tout “5G” as one of the two aspects that Wild Rift will benefit from. Beyond the iOS version, the company also plans to launch the game on Android. Interested players can head to the Wild Rift website to sign-up for the iOS beta or “pre-register” for the Android beta.
Considering that the game is set to launch on Android in the coming months, it is more than likely that the game is not tied to the processor. In addition, this means that the game can run on any processor instead of being tied to A14 like the claims at the event. This means that most iOS (and iPadOS) users will gradually get the chance to play League of Legends: Wild Rift. For some context, the company initially announced Wild Rift last year. In addition, Wild Rift is a refined version of the traditional, League of Legends for PC. Wild Rift introduces improved user interface that makes gameplay easier on smartphones and consoles.
