Krafton Inc., the South Korean gaming giant known for PUBG, announces a ₹1260 crore ($150 million) investment in India through partnerships, acquisitions, and startup incubation, aiming to expand its footprint in the Indian digital ecosystem.
South Korean video game giant Krafton Inc. best known for its popular game "PUBG", has announced a major investment of ₹1260 crore ($150 million) in India. The investment will be made through partnerships, acquisitions and startup incubation models. Krafton's Global CEO, CH Kim, highlighted the significance of the move, saying, "India is the fourth or fifth highest contributing market for Krafton globally. In the times to come, India has the potential to become the largest market for Krafton." The statement reflects the company's optimism about the potential of the Indian market.
Krafton has previously shown its commitment to the Indian market, such as by investing in Nodwin Gaming, Kuku FM and Pratilipi. Through these investments, Krafton has established its presence in the gaming, podcasting and storytelling sectors. Now under this new investment strategy, Krafton is looking to further expand its footprint in India's digital ecosystem through partnerships and acquisitions in promising startups. The move will strengthen Krafton's position in India and aligns with the company's broader vision, which is focused on leveraging the vast market potential of the region. As India is becoming a significant player in the global digital space, Krafton's investment is an important step to strengthen its position in this dynamic and evolving market.
In the past Krafton Inc. has announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat and TransStadia Technologies Pvt. Ltd. This collaboration is set to stimulate the technology, gaming, and esports ecosystem in Gujarat, furthering KRAFTON's dedicated efforts to cultivate India's overall gaming and technology environment. Before that also Krafton has already invested USD 160 million in Indian startups since 2021. Krafton has invested $160 million Indian start-ups to date.
