Intel has just launched a number of processor families at its CES 2021 keynote aimed at different segments of users. In total, the company has launched “more than 105 processors” which will power “more than 500 new designs” this year. The company noted that this number includes all the new laptops and desktops launching this year. As per the announcement, the company announced its 11th gen Intel Core vPro, and Intel Evo vPro platforms. It also announced its “new N-Series” 10-nm Intel Pentium Silver and Celeron processors aimed at the education sector. Beyond this, we also got the 11th gen Intel Core H-Series mobile processors and Intel Core S-Series desktop processors.
Looking at the different processor families, the Core vPro and Evo vPro lineups are aimed at the business crowd. As mentioned above, the Pentium Silver and Celeron will target the education sector with affordable systems. Moving forward, the 11th gen Intel Core H-Series will power upcoming gaming laptops and Intel Core S-Series will run gaming desktops. Intel also teased its “next-generation” Alder Lake processors, likely the 12th gen Core processors. Let’s check out everything we know around the 11th gen Intel Core S-Series and H-Series processors for gaming here.
11th Gen Intel Core S-Series processors to power next-gen gaming desktops
The 11th Gen Intel Core S-Series desktop processors come with the code name Rocket Lake-S. Intel confirmed that these desktop processors will target the gaming and enthusiast community to offer high-performance computing. The highlight of Rocket Lake-S or Intel Core S-Series processors is the 19-percent improvement in instructions per cycle (IPC) over the 10th gen. It also claims that the flagship Intel Core S-Series processor, the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11900K will feature “the highest frequency cores” on a consumer desktop processor. 11900K will feature 8 cores with 16 threads with an all-core turbo frequency of 4.8GHz and up to 5.3 GHz single-core turbo frequency.
Other features of the 11th gen Intel Core i9-11900K include up to DDR4-3200 RAM, AV1 decode support and more. Intel will also offer “new overclocking features” with the processor along with “up to 20 CPU PCIe 4.0 lanes. S-Series processors will also offer “up to 50 percent” performance improvements with integrated graphics. The Intel Core S-Series processors will land in Q1 2021 though we are not sure of the exact date.
Intel is also launching its new Intel 500 series chipset with an integrated USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 controller. However, the S-Series processors will also be backward compatible with 400 series chipsets. It is also worth noting that the 11th gen Intel Core S-Series processors do feature Cypress Cove cores along with Intel Xe Integrated graphics. However, these chips are still 14nm. Talking about desktop processors, the company also teased its next-generation desktop and mobile processors at the end. This generation of processors is called “Alder Lake”. The company stated that it is planning to launch Alder Lake in the second half of the year. Alder Lake will be the first Intel processor build on an “enhanced version of 10nm SuperFin”.
