Computer hardware and peripheral market HP has just made a significant announcement regarding eSports in India. As per the latest information, the company has just announced its “eSports Gold Quest” scholarships for budding professional gamers. This will be part of its Omen FanFest 2020 with an aim to support “the rise of PC gaming culture”. HP revealed that this program will offer selected applicants with “the necessary” support in terms of equipment, exposure, and skills. According to the announcement, HP will select three applicants and “offer them annual scholarship worth Rs 12 lakh each”. The company also noted that it will offer a complete eSports kit, expert mentoring, and more to the selected applicants. These applicants will get a monthly salary worth Rs 50,000 along with international exposure to help kick-start things. The company will even ensure that the scholarship holders can interact with top eSports talent in India. This includes athletes, entertainers, and other pioneers.
HP stated that it “recognizes the need to provide Indian talent with the right set of tools and guidance”. The company believes that all these things will help India “compete on the global stage”. As part of the scholarship, these applicants will also get international training to improve the game. Beyond the usual, HP is also offering these applicants the opportunity to get the fifth sport in the HP Omen Squad. Currently, the squad includes eSports athlete “Hellranger”, live streamer Manasvivi, content creator Ocean Sharma, and stand-up comedian Abish Mathew. It is worth noting that the scholarship application is open for interested players in the 16-20 years old age group.
The company will roll-out the “nationwide talent hunt program” in January 2021 and finalize the selection in June. In addition to this, HP also announced HP Omen Crib, “an entire gaming setup” aimed at gaming. The setup includes a dual monitor desk, Omen gaming chair, headset, keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and speakers. HP will offer gamers the chance to win one Omen Crib each week through the contest. This contest will be exclusive to Flipkart.
