The company did not make a formal announcement highlighting the roll-out of this support. Let's check out other aspects of this latest Epic Games Store update here.
Epic Games has just rolled out a significant update to its in-house Epic Games Store for Indian users. As part of the update, the company has just added support for Indian rupees. This means that Indian users on the Epic Games Store will see prices for games in INR instead of USD. However, the introduction of INR does not come with explicit support for regional pricing like some other platforms. Looking at pricing for some games on Steam and Epic Games Store, we found the INR price to be inconsistent. This means that there were titles that were cheaper on Steam and there were titles that were cheaper on Epic Games Store. Let's check out the other aspects of this latest Epic Games Store update here.
Epic Games Store India Rupee currency pricing, details
In addition to the comparison between Steam and Epic Games Store pricing, we also found inconsistencies in INR and global prices. For instance, some games were now significantly cheaper in INR when compared to USD. However, there are some games that are in line with their global pricing. We also noted that the company did not add any support for local payment options. The payment options are still limited to PayPal and credit cards. The company has not shared anything on expanding payment options in India. For some context, rivals like Steam offer a plethora of options for payments including pre-paid wallets, different types of cards, and even cash of delivery.
It is also interesting to note that this support for INR came weeks, if not months before the rollout. For some context, the company initially stated that it will roll out the INR support next year in 2021. The company shared the details for the decision on its official Twitter account. As per the announcement, the company also rolled out support for seven other currencies. So, now, Epic Games Store supports a total of 29 local currencies.
For the people who have not tried Epic Games Store, the highlight is likely the weekly free games. To clarify, Epic Games Stores gives at least one game free of cost every week. The company shares the details about the upcoming free title one week prior and users can order the game for free without any strings attached. In the past, the company has put several high-profile games for free including GTA 5. The games available for free this week include “Elite Dangerous” and “The World Next Door”. Users will get “MudRunner” for free next week.
