Xbox Live no longer needs subscriptions for free-to-play titles; Microsoft adds FPS Boost to 13 EA games

Microsoft is on a roll with its Xbox-related announcements that bring meaningful changes to gamers. It followed up on its past announcements about removing the subscription required to access Free-To-Play games. According to the official announcement, gamers don’t need a subscription to access and play games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, Apex Legends, and more. Before this, players needed an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play any kind of game on Xbox consoles. The formal announcement came just weeks after the company first started testing free access to Free-to-Play games on its Preview channel. In addition to this, Microsoft also added FPS Boost support to 13 EA titles on Xbox Series X/S. Xbox Live Gold subscription requirement removed for multi-player games
According to the announcement, Xbox console owners can access online multiplayer games without Xbox Gold superscription. Microsoft shared a complete list of “more than 50 free-to-play” titles that are currently available for free after this change. Some of the notable names include Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Rocket League, Hyper Scape, and Pinball FX2. The list also includes Outriders (Demo), Destiny 2, ROBLOX, Spellbreak, Warframe, World of Tanks, and World of Warships: Legends. Microsoft will keep the list updated as it adds free access to more online multiplayer games on Xbox consoles. 13 EA titles get FPS Boost; details
In addition to the changes to the online multiplayer titles on Xbox, Microsoft also brought FPS Boost to more titles. As outlined above, 13 EA titles received support for Xbox FPS Boost to offer gameplay at high frame rates. 12 of the 13 titles now support gameplay at 120Hz while one got support for gameplay at 60Hz. One should note that the FPS Boost feature is only available on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Besides, gamers also get the option to turn off the feature in the Compatibility Options section to play the games in their original state.
The list of the titles to get 120FPS support includes Battlefield 1, Battlefield 4, Battlefield V, and Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. It continues with Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, Star Wars Battlefront, and Star Wars Battlefront II. The list concludes with Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Unravel 2. The final game that got support for 60Hz gameplay is Sea of Solitude. These new titles come just weeks after the company rolled out FPS Boost support for Bethesda titles. After this update, a total of 23 games support FPS Boost mode at the time of writing.
