An exclusive word from senior narrative designer Andrea Listenberger on the role and value of choices in WWE 2K23 MyRise.
2K developers revealed during a recent preview of WWE 2K23 (attended by India Today Gaming) all the new features coming for the series’ latest instalment. WWE 2K23 will be released on March 17 and the upcoming DLCs have already been revealed by 2K. WWE 2K23 has been developed by Visual Concepts.
The upcoming game will feature a new style of MyRise game mode, allowing players to choose between two different styles: The Legacy and The Lock.
MyRise: The Legacy
The Legacy will allow players to take on the role of “a second-generation Superstar finding their way to the top while managing the pressure of their heritage,” said 2K during the presentation.
Clearly, this path will pit players into a situation where they have to succeed in the world of WWE and live up to the legacy laid by the superstar from their family before them.
MyRise: The Lock
2K developers described the Lock as entering MyRise as a “top-tier athlete making their debut amid the WWE hype machine - a once in a lifetime talent groomed for success”.
Interestingly, it was also revealed that gamers will get the chance to make choices that not only impact their in-ring battles but also influence their off-screen paths and career success.
Playing politics in WWE 2K23 MyRise
Andrea Listenberger, Senior Narrative Designer at Visual Concepts for MyRise, mentioned that you can “play politics” during MyRise and those choices can impact the story.
Andrea Listenberger was asked by India Today Gaming about the kind of choices that influence the politics behind the scenes.
What kind of choices are in store for players when it comes to playing politics behind the scenes during MyRise?
Andrea Listenberger told India Today Gaming: "I mean, the dream of MyRise is that you get to control your own superstar right? The reality of WWE is that it’s a big team with a lot of opinions. A lot of backstage producers, a lot of different ways to get over, both in the ring and outside with the fans."
"So, we wanted to have some fun to give you some choices. Say, a producer comes to you with an idea for your match coming up tonight. You can say ‘yeah I’m on board for that’ or you can say ‘Screw you. I don’t want to do that even a little bit at all.’"
"And what we were able to leverage this year with some of the behind the scenes that doesn't necessarily get as much of the flashy attention is, make those pay off in a way where sometimes you’ll see an immediate reaction to it, based on the choice."
