The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 anytime soon. The expected release window set by CD Projekt Red was the first half of 2022. The developer said on Wednesday that the project has now been delayed. CD Projekt did not reveal any new release window for the next-gen upgrade of one of its most iconic games. The studio made the announcement on Twitter which can be found below. The game was originally slated to arrive in Q2 of 2022 but is currently in limbo with no window set for release.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update details
CD Projekt said the in-house development team would finish working on the project now. Saber Interactive, who ported The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Nintendo Switch, was working on the next-gen console version before this announcement.
The upscaled and enhanced version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely expected from the gaming community. The game is one of the most successful titles made. The game earned the most Game of the Year (GOTY) awards (260 awards) when it was released in 2015. The game reigned supreme for six years before The Last of Us Part II bagged 300 Game of the Year awards in 2021.
Fans of the Witcher would have to wait to find out the release date of this enhanced version. However, there’s some Witcher-related good news since the Witcher 4 game was announced recently. The developer revealed a “multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games” to create the new game on Unreal Engine 5, the latest gaming engine by Epic Games.
CD Projekt has a lot on its plate currently and not just with the Witcher franchise. Elsewhere, Cyberpunk 2077 needs a lot of work to become the game that was promised to those who bought it. The recent patch made some quality-of-life changes to its mechanics and introduced a variety of features. Even the game’s Quest Director admitted during a Twitch stream that the game needs more work. CD Projekt is not willing to give up on its AAA title and will be releasing expansions in the future to make it better.
