A new Sony PS5 ad may have just teased Uncharted 5. The new promo, titled ‘Live from PS5’, showcased several released and upcoming PlayStation games such as God of War, Horizon, Spider-Man, and Gran Turismo. The promo showed these games through live-action news reports.
Uncharted 5
While all the games in the promo were recognisable, one live-action clip was not a direct reference to any released game. This unrecognisable clip about an upcoming PS5 game is perhaps Uncharted 5, as per PlayStation fans.
This promo clip showed a young woman in a cave, making her way towards an ancient artefact with a flaming torch. There was another clip where she was seen blowing dust off that artefact.
This is most likely from an unannounced project. Sony said in the blog that accompanied this ad, “This new spot hints at the breadth of extraordinary experiences taking place in the PS5 universe through the style of a live news channel. See if you can spot all the game references.”
Uncharted 4's ending adds to the theory
VGC points out that this unannounced project could indeed be Uncharted 5.
*spoiler warning*
Uncharted 4 ended with Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher’s teenage daughter Cassie finding relics that her parents collected in their adventures. Drake decided to explain that to Cassie and tell her about them.
This has led to speculation that Cassie will now be the protagonist of future Uncharted games, carrying on the legacy of her parents.
While Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann claimed last week that they’ve “moved on” from the Uncharted series, there can be a different studio handling Uncharted 5.
Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty, a recruiter at Naughty Dog, hinted that Sony could indeed be working on future Uncharted titles. When she joined in last April, she said it was special “to be building future teams for not only new titles but for the legacy of Uncharted”.
There was also a job listing in 2022 that pointed out that a new internal development team from Sony is working with Naughty Dog to co-develop a game based on “a beloved franchise”.
