“CustomizeMyPlates” made this move after Sony lawyers threatened to take legal action if it continued to operate. Let’s check out how it plans to continue offering customization options to Sony PS5 users here.
Some new information has surfaced online for soon-to-be (and potential) Sony PlayStation 5 owners looking to customize their consoles. According to a new report, a new company that was looking to sell custom covers for PS5 has canceled all orders. The company made this move after Sony lawyers threatened to take legal action if they continued to operate. This company in question is called CustomizeMyPlates (previously known as PlateStation5). We initially talked about the company when it first surfaced online offering an unofficial way to customize PS5. Let’s check out how “CustomizeMyPlates” will continue to offer customization options to Sony PS5 users here.
Sony PS5 customization may come with a twist
According to a report from VideoGamesChronicale, “CustomizeMyPlates” shared details around how things went down. For some context, the company had to rename from PlateStation5 to “CustomizeMyPlates” after Sony expressed concerns around trademark infringements. “CustomizeMyPlates” also revealed that it was already underway with product development. The company thought that the rename would be enough as it had done its “due diligence” before opening the company. Sony lawyers think that the IP extends to the faceplates and if the company continued, it would attract legal action. The company stated that this development surfaced on October 31 prompting the company to cancel and refund all orders world-wide.
In the original report, the company went on to state, “We are extremely disappointed about this, but we have no other option.” “CustomizeMyPlates” stated that it will be “wiser” to move on from the product and focus on offering legal products. Looking back, the company was offering custom PS5 shells in different colors for $40 or Rs. 3,100. It was hoping to ship the faceplates within two weeks of the launch of the console. The company emerged out of no-where after Sony released its official tear-down of the Sony PS5.
Now, the company is looking at shifting to focus on making custom skins like dbrand for the PlayStation 5. “CustomizeMyPlates” has already updated its website with skin options and pricing. It is offering skins for $25 or Rs 1,900 for the PS5 and $10 or Rs 800 for the controllers. These custom skins will help the company skip the courtroom drama as it continues to offer customization options to future PS5 users.
