Sony has just rolled out a second system upgrade for its latest console lineup, the Sony PlayStation 5 series. As part of the rollout, the company shared some details regarding the upgrade. According to the details, this update improves the system performance of the console. In addition, this update brings the system version to 20.02-02.26.00, and the complete package weighs 886MB. It is interesting to note that the previous update from last week also focused on improving the performance. Let’s check out the rest of the details about the new Sony PlayStation 5 update here. We have also covered a statement from Microsoft that addresses questions and concerns around the Xbox Series X performance.
Sony PlayStation 5 series second software update, details
As noted above, the latest update comes with a description, “This system software update improves system performance.” PlayStation 5 owners reading this can manually download the update after visiting the “Update System Software” option. As noted earlier, readers in India need to wait as Sony has not released the launch date for the console in the market. One can find this sub-section after visiting Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Beyond the description, the company has not shared any more details about the upgrade. For some context, the first update also fixed the download queue bug that was affecting several PS5 series owners.
Microsoft address performance concerns about Xbox Series X
In addition to the PlayStation 5 series update, Microsoft also issued a statement regarding the Xbox Series X. This came after reports highlighted performance issues in several Xbox Series X and Series S optimized games. This is especially problematic when the company has boasted about the hardware capabilities of the console. Going back, Microsoft has termed Xbox Series X as “the most powerful console” in the market. However, we can’t really see the benefits of the hardware capabilities translate into better gaming performance.
Instead, several reports have stated that PS5 performs better than the Xbox Series X in real-world performance. As per the statement to The Verge, Microsoft noted that it is “actively working” with game developers to identify and fix the issues. In addition, it also stated that the game developers “are just scratching the surface of what next-gen consoles can do”. This may also be because Microsoft started manufacturing Xbox consoles later than PS5. This likely means that the company was late in sending out the developer kits, so studios did not have enough time to polish the games.
