South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has just teased an interesting showcase in the coming days. The display division of the company called LG Display will showcase an OLED TV geared towards gaming at CES 2021. An OLED TV focused on gaming is not really a new thing. However, this display has a neat trick up its sleeve as it can bend with the tap of a button. This means that the user can bend and un-bend the OLED TV to switch between a flat and curved screen. Let’s check out everything we know around the upcoming LG OLED “Bendable” display aimed at gamers and content consumers here.
LG OLED Gaming TV with a bendable screen on showcase at CES 2021
The company has confirmed that the OLED TV with the bendable display is not ready for the mass market. Instead, the company is referring to the product as a “Concept TV”. Given the situation around COVID 19, the company will showcase the product at its CES 2021 virtual showroom. Talking about the rest of the features, the Concept TV will feature a 48-inch “Bendable CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) display” with 4K resolution. The flat screen is geared towards the casual movie-watching audience while the curved screen is meant for immersive gaming. LG Display noted that the panel can curve “up to 1,000mm radius”.
It is likely that this bendable OLED “Concept TV” is the next step from the rollable OLED TV that we saw last year. Taking a closer look, the company has also added a 0.6mm thick “film exciter” that transforms the OLED panel into a speaker. This ensures that the form-factor of the TV is “slimmer” and one does not require an external speaker. Both these aspects make the experience more immersive during video consumption and gaming.
LG has also confirmed that the Concept TV comes with support for variable refresh rate from 40 to 120Hz. This means that the product offers the baseline, 120Hz for gaming on Xbox Series X, Series S, and PS5. It also features 0.1ms response time and is part of a comprehensive lineup of OLED displays on display this year. The company also shared a 31-second video hinting at all the products on the showcase.
