Valve has released a substantial update for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) on June 25, introducing new community maps, a revamped MVP UI system, significant changes to the Competitive ranking system, and various other improvements.
New Community Maps
The update adds five community-designed maps to the game, each tailored to specific modes:
- Memento and Assembly: Designed for the two-versus-two Wingman mode.
- Pool Day: An Arms Race map set in a resort-like public pool.
- Thera and Mills: Classic defuse mode maps now available in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch map groups, though not yet part of the Active Duty map pool.
Map Fixes and Improvements
- Nuke: Fixed spots where the C4 bomb could get stuck.
- Ancient: Addressed issues with C4 stuck spots, holes in the world, and non-solid objects.
- Vertigo: Fixed C4 stuck spots and clipping issues.
- Anubis: Resolved grenade collision and clipping problems.
UI Updates
- The MVP panel has been updated across all game modes.
- Animated MVP panels have been introduced in Premier matches.
- New MVP conditions have been added, and existing MVP rules have been adjusted.
Gameplay Changes
- In Competitive Matchmaking, players now reveal per-map skill groups after earning two wins on a map, instead of the previous requirement of ten wins.
Video Settings Enhancements
- Settings Recommendations:
- Pop-ups now recommend optimal settings if the display's refresh rate is below its maximum, if NVIDIA G-Sync support is detected but not enabled, or if G-Sync is enabled but not V-Sync and/or NVIDIA Reflex.
- Video Settings Adjustments:
- Removed “Main Menu Background Scenery” and “Item Inspect Background Scenery” settings from the Video Settings page.
- The "Refresh Rate" setting now shows the current refresh rate in Windowed and Fullscreen Windowed modes.
- Removed the “Laptop Power Savings” setting.
- Added a “Frame Pacing” section to the Advanced Video settings page.
- Included an “NVIDIA G-Sync” row in the Frame Pacing section to indicate if G-Sync is active.
- Added sliders for "Maximum FPS In Game" and "Maximum FPS In Menus."
- Increased the default “Maximum FPS In Menus” from 120 FPS to 200 FPS.
- The Advanced Video visual preview now uses the “In Game” maximum FPS instead of the “In Menus” maximum.
This update aims to enhance the gaming experience with fresh content, improved UI, and better performance settings, reflecting Valve's ongoing commitment to refining CS2.
