Apex Legends Season 15 launch trailer: Catalyst's abilities and glimpse of new map shown

Apex Legends Season 15 launch trailer had Eclipse as its highlight. Eclipse is the latest Legend in the Apex Games. The trailer gave fans a sense of Eclipse’s powers. Hailing from Cleo, the shattered moon of Boreas, Eclipse looks to be the legend which possesses abilities that counters Seer’s scanning abilities. This launch trailer also follows another trailer, released a few days ago, which told the story of Eclipse. Here’s everything we know from the launch trailer about Eclipse and what Apex Legends Season 15 would offer to the fans.

Catalyst's abilities

Catalyst has the ability to manipulate “ferrofluid”, a black liquid that has the capability to create an impenetrable wall that can block the scanning ability of Seer. Furthermore, it also acts like a defensive barrier that is bullet-proof as shown in the launch trailer. We see Octane trying to typically rush into the wall after using Stem but gets slowed down while making it to the other side of it. The shroud created by Catalyst’s Ferrofluid also seems to blur the vision of Octane when he tried to get past it.

Cleo is the new Apex Legends map

As for Apex Legends’ lore, the launch trailer revealed that it was Seer’s efforts to promote Boreas which led to the Apex Games coming to Cleo. Since Cleo is the home planet of Catalyst, it’s quite understandable that there’s a conflict of interest between Seer and Catalyst. The trailer revealed that Hammond Robotics has decided Cleo, the dying moon, cannot be saved and should instead be used for the Apex Games. 

This will lead players to Cleo being added as the latest map when Apex Legends Season 15 arrives on November 1. 

Catalyst is the first trans Apex Legend

Catalyst, as revealed in the latest “Stories from the Outlands”, is the first transgender Legend. Tressa Smith, aka Catalyst, is a defensive type Legend and Respawn Entertainment hired GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) consultants and also had their own trans and LGBTQ employees working to develop Catalyst’s story, personality and background. 

Respawn will be revealing a gameplay trailer on October 24 where more information about Season 15 will get revealed. A first look at the new map, new battle pass and other features are expected to be shown. Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale game available on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
