Apex Legends coming to Steam with Season 7 launch; Switch release delayed

Electronic Arts has just announced that it is bringing its Battle Royale game, Apex Legends to Steam next month. The company initially shared this information earlier in the year. Going back to the original announcement, the company noted that it will also bring the game to Nintendo Switch. Now, as per the latest update, the company is delaying the Switch version of the game. Digging into the Steam release of Apex Legends, Electronic Arts has scheduled the Steam release for November 4, 2020. Apex Legends Steam and Switch launch; details

Chad Grenier, Game Director for Apex Legends shared the latest updates around the Steam and Switch versions of the game. As part of the dedicated announcement post, Grenier confirmed that the Steam launch co-insides with the Season 7 launch date. The interesting part about this announcement is that the game will feature progression compatibility between Steam and existing EA Play. This means that exiting Apex Legends can carry their account progression between the two platforms. It is also worth noting that EA Play is joining the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The best part about this move is that the price of both these tiers of subscription will remain the same. So, if you are an existing Game Pass subscriber then you can get Apex Legends there.

Now, let’s talk about Apex Legends for Switch. According to the announcement post, the company is delaying this version to 2021. Grenier stated that the development team is working “hard” to develop the port. However, it wants some time “to do justice to the game” to offer a “great experience”. He also highlighted the challenges that 2020 brought including COVID 19. However, the post did not refer to the pandemic directly.

Electronic Arts team noted that it does not want to “rush anything out”. At the same time, it did not reveal any concrete launch date for Switch. However, it did note that the Switch version will also come with support for cross-platform play, and the latest seasonal content.
